Hello from chilly Boston! Lucas gave me this cute hat for Christmas.  When I opened it, of course I thought it was cute, but I also thought it was pretty impractical since we are living in sunny CA with January temps averaging in the 70s.  However, I completely retract my thoughts now that 1. I've been tromping around B-town for the last two days during one of their big nor-easters and 2. I've paired it with my long wool coat.  Lucas told me now that I like my hat so much that maybe we should rethink our residency rank list and prioritize some of the colder locations... I'm not sure I agree with him on that, regardless of the hat.

14 Weeks and 1 Day

This won't just be a pregnancy blog, I promise. I will try to fill it with all sorts of other stories and pictures from all aspects of our life that you may or may not care about.  But today I am 14 weeks and 1 day pregnant with Baby King (should we abbreviate to BK?)


I've seen this template on some of my friend's blogs, so I though for the sake of being completely unoriginal, I would go with it. 

How Far Along:  14 weeks; 1 day

Size of Baby:  Baby is the size of a peach

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  At 12w5d I was down 1 pound.  I suspect that pound plus perhaps another has returned.

Maternity Clothes:  I like sweatpants right now. And long shirts.  Lucas told me the other day when we were walking that my shirt was riding up.  I think he was kind of embarrassed because it looked a little white trashy.

Gender:  I have begged and pleaded, but Lucas wants me to have one more surprise in my life this Spring/Summer.

Movement:  I can't wait to feel it! 

Sleep:  I absolutely adore sleep.  I usually am up 2x to use the bathroom but have learned to navigate that like a pro in my sleep.

What I miss:  Nothing compared to being pregnant!

Cravings: I did order a chocolate shake last week which made Luke's jaw drop.  I like oranges a lot right now.

Symptoms:  Feeling a little more energetic now than I did in the beginning, but I will still take any chance to sleep that I can get.

Best Moment this week:  This has continued over from our appointment from two weeks ago, but telling all of our friends that we are having a baby has been really fun. Also seeing BK waving and moving all over the place at our appointment at 12w5d. 

Random Updates:

My stomach itches a lot.  I finally got my hair cut and colored (I was waiting until 2nd Tri). Lucas is certain that Bentley knows that I am pregnant.  He is even more cuddly with me and protective over me.  

And last but not least, the first belly picture, taken today at 14w1d.

Side view, definitely starting to see a bump. 

Lucas did not want to be left out, so we will also be documenting the changes in the pregnancy for him as well.  

Welcome and a recap

The King's Musings...

 I've always wanted to blog. Lucas thinks it's a little weird and says he will only contribute minimally. I will give credit to Lucas for the title of our blog. Right now he's mocking me and verbally blogging everything that he is doing right now. So long story short, I'm hoping to become a consistent blogger, but I don't know if I have the full support that I was hoping for! 

Life is about to become a little more crazy than it already has been over, well, basically since we've been married.  Let's recap (mostly for my sake since I've never been a journaler and I know one day I will struggle to remember this).

July 11, 2008 We tie the knot after Lucas' first year of medical school.  We make the move to Loma Linda.

September 2008 We welcome Bentley King into our family and can't imagine life without our large snuggly Boxer

Spring 2009 was the Spring of never-ending studying.  I can not even count the number for hours Lucas spent studying for Step 1 (National Boards).  I do not have any photo evidence of this, but I do have receipts from Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Denny's (who studies at Denny's?)

Summer 2009 Vacations but back to school too fast for Lucas to start rotations

School year 2009-2010 Is a BLUR.  Lucas lives at the hospital.  Bentley and I become bonded for life through walks and trips to the dog park.

February 2010 I completed my first marathon (Pasadena) which meant that the months prior to this were filled with very long Saturday morning runs.

Summer 2010 Lucas transitions from 3rd year to the coveted 4th year, but soon learns it's not as relaxed as one would hope, especially if you're going into orthopedics.

September 2010 Lucas heads to a rotation in Georgetown (DC) and is hosted by the lovely Pastuseks.  I got to come out the last weekend he was there for a visit.

October-November 2010 Lucas and I spend 5 weeks in Colorado while he rotates at CU.

November 8, 2010 We learn that Baby King will arrive sometime in July 2011 while in Colorado.  

December 2010-January 2011 Lucas does his own type of marathon - interview marathon! He stops in at 11 different schools in California, Colorado, Ohio, New York, Tennessee, and Texas.  We find out March 17 where we're headed to!  Let's pray that he never made this face in an interview.

So my hopes for this blog is share with you the musings or day to day happenings in the King family.
